Primary target of my 1st series of articles about creating the custom made furniture will be the aspiration to help you to get a general knowledge about the basic concepts of construction, using the suitable materials, ferrules and theyr combinations, show the correct constructions of furniture elements, but also preidentificate possible problems, so you can prevent the time delay or financial losts. In succesive steps I will try to describe and show you the most important habits that you should be carefull about, what you should not forget, or what you shouldn’t do at all.
Custom making of furniture ( joinery production / atypical furniture producing ) is a complicated proces that requires a lot of aspiration, time and energy. Quality of the final product ( doesn’t mater if it is a small flake board shelf or complete luxorious kitchen) is infulenced by many factors from side of creator, but also the customer. I will mainly focus on factors of your side.
One of the most usual reasons of customers uncontantness with finished firniture are usually the missunderstoods built up during requesting the order and validating the creating documents.
If you will not describe your request properly about your future kitchen, in a better case you will have to wait unpatiently couple of days or weeks more ( constructor will contact you, opened problems will be sloved by phone, e-mail or you will be invited for future consultation), in a worse case your kitchen will not look like as you dreamed to ( you will not be contected by a constructor and he will solve out the problems by his own taste and they don’t have to match your opinion). So you can get the same results, if you will pay attention to the layouts that the constructor shows you to validate with a tought „I dont really understand the Pictures I got to validate, but they surely know what are they doing.
Four basic advices if you are ordering custom made furniture:
1. When you order the furniture, you have to answer a lot of question, which could seem unimportant and unnessecary, but an effort to answer them very specific can minimize misunderstanding and with it connected displeasure with final result. You are ordering furniture at professionals, but imagination, that everything will work without your collaboration is wrong
2. If you don’t understaned something in the process of ordering, or you don’t know what is the meaning of technical word, you have to ask again and again.
3. Any kind of changing proportions, construction, materials etc should be in the purchase order.
4. Don’t ask for any kind of change by phone and don’t want immediate evaluation of technical viability of exact detail - these are the fastest tickets to club of unpleased customers, because technician needs for evaluation of exact example not just his knowledge, but also extensive catalogs or calculation tables.
